Gym Reopening Update is Here- Will Mumbai be the First City to Resume Gym Sector?
Ahead of Unlock 3.0, which will start from August 1, the Maharashtra government plans its Standard Operating Procedures/protocols (SOP) to allow more relaxations in several sectors, including gyms and fitness centers. Maharashtra public health minister Rajesh Tope said, “I have personally spoken to CM about the gyms sector employs a huge number of people.”
In all cities, Gyms have been closed from the first phase of lockdown, as exercising in a closed quarter could grow COVID-19 at a more alarming rate. The shutdown has led many gym owners to go bankrupt as they have to pay the rent and the EMIs for the machines. Especially in Mumbai, which has many gyms, the gyms’ closure for the past five months has severe impacts.
The MHA decided to keep gyms closed till Unlock 2.0. However, it is assumed that in unlock 3.0, gyms may get a green signal to resume operations in a limited manner, maintaining social distancing, and the maintenance of proper hygiene is mandatory to follow.
The Maharashtra government has chosen to go ahead with the reopening of the gyms as soon as the Centre gives its permission.
However, Mumbai locals will not be operating for the general passengers anytime soon as there is no scope of following social distancing in a Mumbai local train. Some limited services will be catering to only essential staff that will go on without expansion.
The United Kingdom has reopened gyms from July 25.
